It's not someone else's problem

Sometimes I breathe a big sigh of relief that God opened doors in the direction of international adoption over adopting through the foster care system, because I know the foster care system is broken and messy and painful and long.

But sometimes I read something that causes my heart to break and my eyes to open, something that causes me to say, this is not someone else's problem.  Please go read this article written by a girl who aged out of the foster care system in this country, it's so important as the body of Christ that we view these children as our responsibility and take the time to pray and ask God what He wants us to do about it.

I saw that too, and it was heartbreaking. There is so much that is wrong with our system....sometimes it seems to overwhelming even to think about. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't.

This makes me think about my sister and her journey. If only we'd had the opportunity to bring her in our family after the first incident of abuse instead seven years in and out of her horrific home, what would have happened?
